PollyLop is a most adorable, lovable, soft, and oh so darling bunny! She's white and brown with the odd dab of black on her face. She also has a cute wee white spot on her nose, which she knows looks especially precious when she wiggles it - - so she tries to wiggle it as much as she can!!
PollyLop comes from a place she said is called "The Land of Holl". She has sometimes heard it called "The Land of Nether", but she doesn't know why. She says it is the most perfect place that a Bunny could ever live! They grow lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of yummy, delicious flowers, which are a most tasty and delicious treat of bunnies around the world. Polly has often wondered why any Bunny would ever have wanted to leave The Land of Holl. To her, it sounds like heaven - the land of milk and honey, or as she prefers to call it - the land of flowers, mmmm yummy!
She is also somewhat different from all of the other bunnies in the world that don't come from The Land of Holl. All other Bunnies hop; they wiggle their noses; they all have the softest fur - as far as she knows anyway; they all have the cutest little cottony, silkie soft bunny tails; and they all have ears! ....big, cute, adorable ears - a feature that quickly lets everyone know they are truly Bunnies. But Polly was different. She knew she was unique, and she was very proud of it: Her ears 'flopped' down to the sides of her head!
Apparently, in The Land of Holl, they didn't know about the word 'Flop'. So, Polly decided they must have just really liked the word 'Lop' instead - and she was quite happy with that. After all, it gave her the cutest name ever - PollyLop!
PollyLop has lived in many places. She can't remember when she was born, or where, but she's pretty sure it was in Ontario, Canada, which is where she lives still. She lived in a park by herself for awhile. She says that she loved it when the kids would come out and play, but when she would try to join in, and jump and hop and flip, just to show how excited she was, the people became afraid of her and wouldn't go near her. Once in awhile a little child would sit very still and let her come for pets, but if they tried to pick her up, Polly was afraid they were going to hurt her like some of the other people had tried to do, so she would hop away to one of her many hiding spots. Then one day a man with a scary net came and next thing Polly knew, the net came swooping down over her head and she was trapped! She jumped, and flipped. She even tried a binky or two which Polly says is a little move that bunnies do that people think looks quite cute, and fun, but it can actually be very effective to fool someone or something that is after her, or any other bunny. She says she's one of the best Binky-stylists in the world. (I'm personally not sure how she would know that!) She says that while she's running, she'll take the BIGGEST hop she possibly can and then in mid-air, she'll give her body a quick twist so that she will be headed in a different direction when she lands, and whoever is after her will get totally lost and confused, and give up chasing her. Polly thinks that that bunny skill is THE BEST that anybunny could ever have. She says it makes bunnies superior to all other living things. She says, after all, have you ever seen a dog be able to do a binky? How about a chicken? Maybe a lion? NO! People? Maybe an elephant or giraffe? Not a chance! So she's very proud of being a talented little Bunny!
After the man got Polly, he took her to a place that had lots of other kinds of animals. Mostly kittens and puppies, dogs and cats, but there were strange animals there too! There was a turtle, and a snake! There was even a family of RATS!! Polly doesn't like rats! She says that so many people think they are related to rats and mice, AND THEY ARE NOT! Bunny rabbits are not rodents, and she wants you to know that! They are their own special family called Lagomorpha. She likes it that way!
Fortunately, the man didn't put her near any of those animals. She was placed in a cage beside other bunnies. At least that was better, even though she truly belonged at the park!
All of the people who lived at her placed liked to take PollyLop out to play with them. Polly loves to chew paper and one day while Polly was sitting on the desk chewing away at an especially chewy little book, a stranger came and asked about her. They wanted to know if they could 'adopt' her. Polly didn't know what that meant, but she had a sneaky suspicion that she didn't want to hear any more about it. She tried to hide under the 'counter' part of the desk. It turned out that when you're under counters, you can't do binkys!! So they picked her up and gave her to the strange lady. The lady pet her, and seemed nice. But Polly says that she liked her even better when she set her down on the counter and pet her that way. She just knew that lady didn't know too much about how to hold Bunnies! She tried to do things that would maybe convince her to go look at a puppy, or a kitten, or maybe one of those RATS! but nope. The lady gave something called a donation to the people Polly had been living with. THEN...they stuffed her in a box!! She couldn't see out, she felt cold, and she was very scared!! She could feel the box moving around, and then it was still for awhile. Then it was bumping around again. Finally someone opened her box. She popped her head up and looked around. It actually looked like it might be...meh ...ok.. (Polly didn't want to admit that it looked like great fun, even though it wasn't her park). She eventually hopped out of the box on her own, and checked out her new place. What caught her eye made her totally forget any scared, upset feelings and thinking she didn't want to be there! There was a big thing in the middle of her play area. It was quite big compared to her, but it didn't scare her at all. In fact, it made her curious! She just had to go check it out. So she confidently but softly, hopped over to this thing. She hopped around it a few times. Then during one of her hops, the thing moved! She froze for a second - because that's something that bunnies do best when they think there is danger. Then she heard the people laugh. She knew that sound meant everything 'should' be ok, so she decided to give it a little nudge with her nose. The thing moved! But not in a way that she had ever seen anything move before! Bunnies most definitely could NOT move like this thing could. She could hear the people giggling and laughing, and she kept hearing a sound they were making over and over again. So, Polly decided she'd give this thing a name, from the sound everyone was making. She called it 'Ball'. No one knew that that's what she was calling it because they only make noise. But to her, that was the perfect name.
PollyLop and Ball became the very best of friends. She could get that ball to go anywhere she wanted.....most of the time.... Polly didn't think it had a face or anything, so she didn't think it could think. But Polly says that sometimes Ball would start thinking, and would roll away from her. She would hop after Ball and sometimes Ball was happy to go wherever Polly wanted her to, but sometimes, Ball just didn't want to do what Polly wanted, so she would just leave her alone for awhile so she could think. Polly liked to sit and just think sometimes, (although not for long) so she decided that Ball must be like that too.
There were a lot of different kinds of people at her new place. Some walked around like the people at her last home, but there were also people who walked around with sticks in their hands. They weren't scary sticks like some of the kids from the park had. These people would just walk around poking the stick on the floor. It seemed rather silly to PollyLop, but she says that's what they did. Then there were people who sat in funny looking chairs. She thought the different kinds of chairs actually looked pretty neat and, if bunnies actually sat in chairs, she thought she would really have fun in some of the ones there. One kind of chair was normal. People would come and sit in a chair and it seemed like they really liked their chair because they never wanted to get back up. Then, there were the BIG chairs. The ladies would get a person, help them into the chair and put a blanket on them. Then they would bend down a bit, do something, and the back of the chair would move back into an almost laying down position - kind of like a bed, except cooler! And those bed-chairs could be moved around by the ladies. Polly liked that! But there was one kind of chair that she really liked. Polly thought it would be tons of fun to use if she had arms like people! She would watch while the person in the moving chair would use their people arms and reach down and grab the sides of the chair and push these big things, and then they would move...forward, backward, and sometimes around in circles. They looked like they had a lot of fun playing with the chairs! She often thought that those chairs must somehow be related to Ball, but she didn't know for sure. When she asked Ball, Ball didn't tell her anything. She figures Ball did't know the answer so Ball wouldn't want to talk about it. (Polly says Ball hardly ever said anything. The only sound Ball ever made was a 'boingy boing' sound when the ladies would pick Ball up and drop her. Polly thought that should hurt but Ball sounded happy. Ball would also make a 'squeak' sound, which sounded like it 'maybe' hurt when Polly would push her, so Polly would stop for a minute to make sure Ball was ok).
Polly says that sometimes one of the people would come and 'pick her up' - a most disliked thing indeed! She did NOT like to be picked up at ANY time, but most especially by somebunny who didn't know a single thing about bunnies! She sometimes thinks they were actually scared of her!! (When Polly was telling me this part, she laughed so hard she started to roll around on the floor! She said she finally learned how to move like Ball!) She said that sometimes she would get very scared because a lady would try to put her on a person sitting in a chair - so they could pet her. It was very hard to sit there and it always made her feel like she was going to fall. She knew that she could just jump down and land on her feet and that would feel safer. But when she would try to do that, the people would make excited sounds. (Polly thinks that's funny!) Then they would try to pick her up - again! - like she was some puppy or kitten or something. She never did figure out why they couldn't see that SHE was a BUNNY! Had they not noticed the dead give away? The adorable ears? and of course, her cutest little cottony, silky soft bunny tail, and precious, wiggly little nose? Kittens and puppies do NOT have those amazing traits! Only Bunnies!!
She gradually got 'kind of' used to being picked up. There was one lady who 'kind of' knew how to hold her. (Polly thinks that it's because this lady had an awesome 'bunny lady' friend who always liked to talk about bunnies, so, maybe some of it rubbed off on her!) :D Polly didn't mind so much when she came. She was a silly and sometimes quite goofy lady. That's why Polly liked her the most! But then one day, the lady never came to get her anymore. She really hoped that she didn't make her mad somehow - as Polly knows she could with some of the other ladies at that place.
Then, one day, there came ANOTHER dreaded box! Polly was picked up, along with Ball this time, and put into a box. It moved and bumped and jiggled around. It took a lot longer than when she was in the other box. Proudly, she wasn't quite as scared this time. She had a pretty good idea she would be going to another place to live.
After a very long time, so long that Polly thought she might end up having to pee in that box, which for Polly would have been a terrible messy thing for her, a bunny rabbit, to ever have to do, they finally stopped. The box bumped, was opened up, and she looked at the new people. She could tell INSTANTLY that these were the most awesome people she had ever met. She just knew that this was the beginning of the best adventures of her life.
(Polly says she can't wait to tell you about each and every one!)
